🚙 The long road from the “cursed mountains.”
After the wild adventure on Zla Kolata, I drove 251 kilometres across Montenegro’s winding mountain roads toward the remote Maglić trailhead near Prijevor. It was another late-night arrival, headlights cutting through fog and empty forest roads. I parked near the national park gate and slept a few hours in the car before the next climb.
I began hiking late the next morning at 11:38, following the classic route via Trnovačko Jezero, one of the most beautiful glacial lakes in the Balkans. The first few kilometres led through calm forest, opening up to the turquoise lake surrounded by steep limestone walls, a scene straight from a postcard.
⛰️ A climb worth every step
After a short break by the lake, I continued up the steep rocky path toward Maglić’s summit ridge. The air was crisp, the visibility perfect, and every corner revealed a new panorama of the Durmitor and Sutjeska ranges. Despite fatigue from the previous climbs, I kept a strong pace, covering 19.5 km with 1,444 m of elevation gain.
Reaching the summit at 15:40 felt like a reward after weeks of pushing limits. The views stretched endlessly across Bosnia, Montenegro, and beyond, rugged, wild, and peaceful.

🇵🇱 Meeting fellow travellers
On the top, I met an amazing couple from Poland who were also celebrating their ascent. We talked for a while, he told me about his passion project, building futuristic bikes designed to look like luxury cars such as Bugatti, something that instantly caught my attention. The combination of creativity, engineering, and adventure felt oddly familiar, another version of chasing big dreams, just in a different form.
We took photos together, shared stories, and laughed about the unpredictability of Balkan mountain roads before parting ways.

🌄 A peaceful descent
The descent felt light and joyful, the kind of hike where every step carries satisfaction instead of pain. By 18:00, I was back at the car, sun still shining over the peaks, with that rare sense of balance, tired, but completely fulfilled.
💭 Reflection
Maglić was everything I hoped for, calm, beautiful, and full of character. After several days of chaotic travel and intense climbs, this was a day that reminded me why I started the journey in the first place. Sometimes, the best days aren’t the hardest ones, they’re the ones that let you simply breathe and enjoy the view.
